Physics Department Tour - Astronomy Research Lab (Halsey 340)

This is the astronomy research lab. The focus of much of our work is the observation and modeling of stars in the disk and halo of our Galaxy - which is very computationaly intensive. So, while it may not look like much (sometimes people expect telescopes, sky charts, and blinking lights), there are four powerful Sun workstations and an 18 drive disk array used by students to reduce and analyize astronomical data taken from telescopes all over the world.
