Conceptual Change in Science Education
(Secondary Education 747)

The focus of this course is on conceptual change approaches to the teaching of science. The course will be delivered in a blended (mixture of online and on-campus activities) format.

Teachers will gain an understanding of student learning of specific subject matter in the sciences. This research, growing out of a number of different traditions, has become the basis for promising new approaches to science instruction. By taking this course you will be able to link research in student conceptions to conceptual change instructional strategies, use research in conceptual change to transform theory into classroom practice, offer criticisms of conceptual change, and compare and contrast conceptual change teaching strategies to other teaching strategies for a variety of science subject matter.
